Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program
On April 1, 2012, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and the Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) combined their respective national bariatric surgery accreditation programs into a single unified program to achieve one national accreditation standard for bariatric surgery centers, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Prior to this merger, Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery and Duke Regional Hospital were accredited by the ASMBS. Surgeons with the Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery exceed several bench marks required by the ASMBS to attain Center of Excellence status.
Blue Cross Blue Shield
The Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery. We were the first program in the region to receive this accreditation.
According to Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Distinction Centers provide quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for bariatric patients. Our program meets stringent clinical criteria, while at the same time providing surgical options tailored to each patient. Post-operative care from staff trained in the needs of bariatric surgery patients, outpatient follow-up care, and patient education are provided to help you succeed in your goal of permanent weight loss.
The Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery is designated as a Center of Excellence with CIGNA health insurance. Like other Center of Excellence programs, CIGNA has detailed requirements in order for a program to receive this distinction, including a comprehensive program and positive patient outcomes. Our clinic is proud to be exceptionally strong in all areas.
