Durham, NC- Durham Regional Hospital Operating Room nurse Mary Bennett, BSN, RN, CNOR, was named to the 2012 list of Great 100 Nurses.
The Great 100 Awards acknowledge 100 North Carolina nurses annually who demonstrate excellence in practice and commitment to their profession. The Great 100, Inc. recognize the importance of nurses in diverse practice settings and look for those who positively impact the image of nursing and nursing as a profession.
“Durham Regional hospital has so many outstanding nurses that provide exceptional, compassionate care to our patients and their loved ones every day,” says Vicky Orto, chief nursing and patient care services officer. “Mary is an example of one of our greats.”
Bennett, a Durham resident, has been a perioperative nurse at Durham Regional for 37 years. She has been an active member of the Association of Peri Operative Registered Nurses for 32 years and also serves on the board of directors of the state Operating Room Nurses’ Association.
“I was thrilled to know my colleagues felt I was worthy of this great recognition and award,” said Bennett. “I became a nurse to work in the Operating Room, and I have never regretted that decision. Perioperative nurses are the patient’s advocates at their most vulnerable times, and we rise to the challenge of delivering the best and safest care possible. That is my personal goal each day when I arrive at work.”
The Great 100 Award recipients will be honored at a black-tie gala in Greensboro, NC, on October 13, 2012.
